Suffolk growth meets Texel muscle
The SufTex is a Suffolk × Texel terminal composite. The Suffolk brings early growth, lamb vigour and frame. The Texel brings muscling, a high lean meat yield and a well shaped carcase. Put over maternal ewes, SufTex rams sire lambs that grow quickly and suit modern grid pricing.
Our breeding philosophy
Growth and yield together. We select on NZ Terminal Worth (NZTW), balancing lamb growth (TSG) with meat yield (TSM).
Proven at the top. Our SufTex rank in the top percentiles of the NZTW index
Hill country raised. They’re run alongside our maternal flocks, so they’re active, sound and ready for big mobs.
Farmed tough. Autumn humidity makes sheep farming tough here, and we are one of the most northern SufTex flocks.
IMF. Measuring and selecting for IMF for eating quality, to suit the end consumer.
Data focus. We collect as much data as possible - if it can be measured, we record it.
Sound and healthy. All rams are tested clear of brucellosis each year and leave the farm with a quarantine drench and up to date vaccinations.
